The skycale isn't worse. It's different. It can take you to places that are at the same time too high for raptor and griffon and too far for springer, like an elevated ledge in the distance, but springer will still do better on vertical jumps and the raptor on horizontal jumps. It's like trying to compare a rook, a bishop and a knight in chess.

The springer, skimmer and griffon are more 'novelty' mounts for me. There is only one mastery insight that remotely requires a griffon. You may have a bit of trouble with the regular griffon so having Aerial Prowess (rank 2) may help.
